On July 11th Centegra Nursing received notice that their 2013 Magnet designation application document was accepted.
The application shares how the system provides nursing care for our patients, our community and each other. It It describes the processes we use to make decisions and allocate resources. Most importantly, it provides insight into Centegra’s unique culture of compassionate caring and reflects how we truly aim to serve with joyful spirits. This Magnet document reflects the richness and depth of Nursing at Centegra
The next step in our journey to Magnet designation will be a site visit by Magnet surveyors. We expect the visit to take place in October and to last less than one week. During the visit, surveyors will witness first-hand Centegra’s culture and how our dedicated Nurses incorporate evidence-based practices into the care we provide every day. They will be thoroughly examining our interdisciplinary approach to care while visiting multiple sites, so every Associate will play an important role.
Thank you to everyone who has helped lead Centegra down our journey to Magnet designation so far. The upcoming site visit is an important component of our Magnet application and is our chance to shine! We look forward to your continued support.

Connie Secor, Director of Surgical Services at Centegra Hospital-McHenry Jamie Hursey, Manager of Cardiac Invasive and Robotics Services and Dr. Tomasian, Director of Cath Lab are very proud to announce that Centegra Hospital-McHenry has once again been recognized for the quality care delivered to its patient population. CHM has been recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois as one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction Center+ designation in the area of cardiac care. This award further establishes the quality of cardiac services at Centegra Hospital-McHenry following the recent receipt of the Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2013 from the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s ACTION Registry-GWTG.
Blue Distinction Centers are hospitals shown to deliver quality specialty care based on objective, transparent measures for patient safety and health outcomes that were developed with input from the medical community. This year, the national program added a new designation level, Blue Distinction Centers+, to recognize hospitals that deliver both quality and cost-efficient specialty care.
To receive a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care designation, a hospital must demonstrate success in meeting both general quality and safety criteria such as preventing hospital-acquired infections and cardiac-specific quality measures, which are related to lower rates of complications and death following cardiac surgery and non-surgical procedures. These hospitals must also show better cost efficiency relative to their peers. According to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, only those facilities that first meet Blue Distinction’s nationally established, objective quality measures are considered for designation as a Blue Distinction Center+.
Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of all of the Associates and Physicians who are involved in the care of our cardiac patients.
