Q. What is new about the Family Birth Center at Centegra Hospital- McHenry (CH-M)?

A. Many updates and changes have been made to the Family Birth Center in anticipation of centralization of deliveries to CH-M including:

  • An additional, remodeled Cesarean section suite
  • Newly renovated private rooms
  • Luxurious robe service for mom to use during her stay
  • Bedside spa treatments including a soothing massage or manicure o Mother’s choice of a delicious take-home meal for her first night home
  • Gift of a quilted cooler for milk storage

Mother’s will still enjoy amenities that were previously available including “At Your Request” room service, providing convenient meals for both mom and her support person and Mom 365, professional photography.

Q. What patient safety enhancements have been made?

A. Later fall of 2014 CH-M will have 24-hour onsite neonatology and OB Hospitalists. A neonatologist is a pediatrician who has years of special training in the care of premature newborns, including three years of additional training after a three-year pediatric residency. As another measure of safety, the Family Birth Center will provide obstetric hospitalists who are providers that specialize in inpatient obstetric care and are onsite 24/7.

Q. Will we still have the Breastfeeding Resource Center at both hospitals?

A. Both CH-M and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock (CH-W) will continue to provide the education, services and supplies mothers need to nurse their babies, including a mother’s room at both locations for visitors and Associates to use for nursing.

Q. Where will prenatal classes take place?

A. Prenatal education classes will be at CH-M. As a mother and her support person prepares for the new baby, it is important they become familiar with the hospital and location where she will deliver.

Q. If a patient arrives at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock in labor, will she deliver there?

A. Any expectant mother who arrives at the CH-W emergency department will be carefully assessed to ensure she can safely make the trip to CH-M. While our goal is to direct all births to CH-M, patient safety comes first and CH-W emergency personnel are well prepared to deliver a baby if necessary.

Q. What will happen to Cradle Crowd footprints?

A. We felt it was very important to maintain the history of the program and to
honor the emotional ties people have to their children’s or grandchildren’s footprints. The current footprints will be moved to a new location within each building that is easily accessible by the public. The CH-M location will be near the cafeteria and the CH-W location will soon be determined. We will let you know once the move is complete. Each location will also hold other historical and commemorative plaques, awards and historical memorabilia that is currently scattered throughout the system.
