1,000th cardiac surgery performed at Centegra Health System

I’m delighted to share the news that our cardiac team is currently performing its 1,000th cardiac surgery at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. Led by Dr. Thomas Hinkamp, a cardiac surgeon from Cardiac Surgery Associates, S.C., our team began surgery at 8:30 a.m. this morning.

The patient has already received outstanding care from so many members of our health care team including nurses, physicians, and clinicians in lab, cath lab, medical imaging, respiratory care and same-day surgery. After his surgery he will be in the Intensive Care Unit and will transfer to the Cardiac Telemetry Unit. He will receive inpatient cardiac rehabilitation and other inpatient care before he leaves our hospital.

Our first cardiac surgery was performed Oct. 27, 2006 when our team performed bypass surgery on a female patient. Since then, the team has performed coronary artery bypass procedures, valve repairs and replacements, Cox Maze procedures and other cardiac surgeries on patients whose lives were forever changed.

In some way, every one of us will have a hand in his care and recovery. Let’s enjoy this important milestone together. We will celebrate the 1,000th cardiac surgery with angel food cake in the hospital cafeterias on all shifts Monday, Oct. 14. Join us that day as we recognize how our Physicians and Associates collaborate to provide our patients advanced services and compassionate care.

Please join me in congratulating our cardiac teams and our entire health system on this special occasion.

Rachel Sebastian, Vice President and Site Administrator, Centegra Hospital-McHenry
